Sr. Matthias Sterner OP

Dominican Sister of Peace, Sister Matthias Sterner died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH on October 9, 2024. She was born in 1931 in Somerset, OH and in 1949 entered the Congregation of St. Mary of the Springs, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace. Sr. Matthias earned her Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from St. Mary of the Springs College, now Ohio Dominican University, and her Master of Theology Degree from the University of Dayton. She taught in schools in OH, PA, NY and CT, and served as Diocesan Director of the Parish Ministry Center in Steubenville, OH, Assistant Diocesan Director of Evangelization and Catechesis in Dayton, OH, and as Director of the Center for Dominican Studies at Ohio Dominican University. She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Mary Finnen Sterner, her brothers James and Robert, and her sister Virginia Dupler. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. A vigil of remembrance service will be held at 4:45PM on October 18, 2024, at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel, Columbus OH. The funeral liturgy will be held at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel at 9:30 AM on October 19, 2024, followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery by EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME.
