Mattie Ruth Luter was born on August 26, 1933, in Milan, TN to the late Crim and Mattie Peoples. At the blessed age of 91, Mattie Ruth peacefully transitioned into eternal rest, having lived a life filled with faith, love, and purpose. God truly favored her - granting her strength, wisdom, and the grace to witness the fullness of His glory throughout her journey. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and remained a faithful servant throughout her life. She was a devoted member of Moores Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and New Hope Missionary Baptist Church serving humbly and faithfully for several years. She served as Deaconess and President of the Usher Board; she was also member of the choir and loved ministering to her church community. Her leadership, wisdom and guidance was prevalent throughout her years of service until her health no longer allowed her to be active in this ministry.
During Mattie Ruth's schooling, she attended Sitka Community School in Sitka, TN. She later attended Gibson County Training School, also known as Polk Clark High School and graduated in 1954. She was united in holy matrimony to James Eugene Parham, Sr. in North Chicago. They were married for a few years when the Lord took him home. To this union two children were born: James Eugene Parham and Martha Ann Parham. She was later united in holy matrimony to Napoleon Luter on August 18, 1965. They were married for 36 years when the Lord took him home on January 26, 2002. To this union two children were born: Napoleon Keith Luter and Belton Skinner Luter.
Mattie Ruth embraced her role as a homemaker and domestic engineer, lovingly caring for her siblings, children, and grandchildren. Her home was a place of warmth, guidance, and unconditional love. She was also an active member of the Triple 6 Club and the Rosemary Club, where she built lasting friendships and served her community with joy. She outlived her dear friends, beloved husbands, and cherished siblings - a true testament to God's covering and her enduring spirit. Though the last of her generation, she was never alone. God's presence was always with her. Mattie Ruth's life was a shining testimony of God's goodness. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and strength that will live on through all who knew and loved her. Now, she rests in peace, reunited with loved ones, and embraced in the eternal arms of her Savior.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Crim Peoples and Mattie Peoples, husbands, James Eugene Parham Sr. and Napoleon Luter; one sister, May Hutchinson; and seven brothers: Belton Peoples, Skinner Peoples, Harrison Peoples, Owen Peoples, Hollis Peoples, Porter Henry Peoples, and Rell Walter Peoples. Surviving to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy are four children: James Eugene Parham (Marsa) of Huntingdon, TN, Martha Ann Parham of Milan, TN, Napoleon Keith Luter (Sonya) of Madison, AL, and Belton Skinner Luter (Michele) of Milan, TN; eight grandchildren: Kieshia La'Don Carter, Bridgette Leana Smith (Rockie), Jonathan Ryan Hannah, Brianna Miquel Luter, Belton Gage Luter, Suncera' Kimberly McClain, Jalen Keith Luter, and Madison LeArin Mullins (William); ten great grandchildren: Shy'Ann Williams, Brooklyn Williams, Prentis Pledge, Paiyton Hannah, Kylie May, Shauntavious Hannah, N'mya Epperson, Brooklyn Woods, Isabella Lynn Mullins and Journie Rhyan Harris; one great great granddaughter: Ky'yohniee May and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will love her forever.
