Mattie Hodge Mitchell, 88, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Calhoun City, Mississippi, Mattie was the daughter of Leroy and Grace Hodge. She married her high school sweetheart, Donald K. Mitchell, Sr., in 1956, and together they built a beautiful life rooted in love, family, and faith. In 1972, they made Gulf Breeze their home, where Mattie became an active and cherished member of the community.
She was a longtime member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and participated in several local organizations, including the Santa Rosa Woman’s Club, the Black Hats, and Hoe and Hum Garden Club. Her caring spirit, strength, and devotion to her family and faith touched all who knew her.
Mattie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don; her parents, Leroy and Grace Hodge; her sister, Margie; and her daughter-in-law, Betty. She is survived by her son Don Mitchell of Ft. Myers FL, Jim Mitchell(Jackie) of Ft. Myers, FL and daughter Linda Mitchell of Gulf Breeze, FL; grandchildren Jessica Moore (Matt), Mason McCluskey (Chandler), and Charlie Mitchell; great-grandchildren John Matthew and Graham; sisters Connie and Dorothy; brother William; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to Emerald Coast Hospice for their compassionate care.
Mattie’s love will continue to shine through all who were blessed to know her. She is now joyfully reunited with her husband in Heaven, resting in the arms of Jesus.
