Maureen Alfaro Obituary
Maureen Alfaro, age 80, was a lifelong New Yorker but lived in New Fairfield, CT for the past three years with her family. She passed away on March 21, 2024 at Danbury Hospital. Maureen was born in Manhattan on June 23, 1943 to the late Stanley Couton and Rose (Gaynor) Couton. She was blessed with a big family of four sisters and four brothers and had her early childhood in Nyack, NY. She later lived many years in Astoria, NY where she raised her two children. Maureen was a caregiver--initially to the elderly in her parish and later on to family--always selfless and taking care of her loved ones, never putting herself first. She was a devout Catholic who loved going to mass and prayed the rosary twice daily (for world peace and for her family.) Even while enduring the suffering of losing many things due to Alzheimer's, she never lost her faith and ability to pray her rosary.
Maureen is survived by her son Stephen and his son Robbie; and by her daughter Bernadette and her husband Justin, and their children Caroline and JT with whom she lived with for the past 12 years. She is also survived by her twin sister Kathleen Perez, her brothers Gordon and Edward Couton, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sisters Barbara Couton, Rosellen McCarthy, and Eileen Castelluccio, and her brothers Stanley and William Couton. Maureen is deeply missed by her dog Marv and her cat Roxy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on March 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m, meeting directly at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 21 Brush Hill Rd, New Fairfield. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
