Maureen Elaine (Arruda) Murphy, 82, of Tiverton, Rhode Island, passed away on March 12, 2026.
She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Murphy.
Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, Maureen was the daughter of the late Francis Arruda and Idelina (Rodrigues) Arruda.
Maureen spent her career working diligently as a secretary and medical biller for PrimaCare and New Bedford Medical Associates until her retirement. Outside of her professional life, her family was always her greatest priority and joy. Known affectionately as a "hummingbird whisperer," she loved spending time feeding the birds. She also found joy in quiet hobbies like needlepoint, crocheting, and reading. Maureen was an active and social member of her community, participating in the Sakonnet Chicks and the Ladies Auxiliary at the Tiverton VFW, and was a proud, longtime supporter of the American Parkinson Disease Association.
She is survived by her six children: David Gomez, Stephen Gomez, Robert Gomez and his wife Peggy, Timothy Murphy, Kevin Murphy, and Kathleen Murphy and her wife Jennifer Perry; her stepdaughter, Robin Murphy; her grandchildren: Tara Gomez, David Gomez, Bobby Gomez, Tabitha Lequin, Dakota Gomez, and Heather Metts; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Rosie. She was preceded in death by her stepsons, Robert, Mark, and Brian Murphy.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 18th, 2026 from 4 to 7 PM at the Oliveira Funeral Home - South Main Street Chapel, 2064 South Main Street in Fall River.
Her funeral will be held Thursday, March 19th, 2026 at 9 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Theresa’s Church, Tiverton. Interment to follow at Pocasset Hill Cemetery.
