Maurice Duplantis III Obituary

Maurice Joseph Duplantis, III, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, after a brief diagnosis of Stage 4 cancer. Maury was born on March 19, 1955, in New Orleans, LA, to Maurice Joseph Duplantis, Jr., MD, and Deborah Austin Duplantis. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Andre' D. Skiba. He is survived by his wife of 24 years Karen Boyer Duplantis, and his sons Reese, Hal and Karl Duplantis. He is also survived by his sister Suzanne D. Fortier-Hodge. Maury was a lifelong Covington resident and a St. Paul's grad. Maury graduated from Ole Miss with a degree in microbiology. He subsequently was employed for 38 years at the Tulane National Primate Research Center as a biologist and instructor. He loved the Center and the people who worked with him there. At the age of 69, when others were retiring, he was considering working a part-time, three-day schedule. Anyone who knew Maury would acknowledge his kindness, but also his absolute joie de vivre. He was fun and fun-loving, always quick with a comment or comical remark. He was a joy to be around and will be missed by all those who knew him, but especially his close-knit group of friends who came to the house regularly for football games and other events. Calling Maury the "Life of the Party" would not be an overstatement. When able, please make a toast to Maury and have an oyster shooter or two. He would be pleased to know that the traditions he enjoyed here will be celebrated into the future. He will be forever loved and never forgotten. Enjoy your time in heaven, Maury. We will see you there one day. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Duplantis may be made to the Northshore Humane Society www.northshorehumane.org. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial services at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington LA 70433 on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation on Saturday beginning at 12:00 noon. E.J. Karen and May Ann,
I am so sorry for your loss. Maury was a kind soul. I know you all loved him dearly. I only knew him for a short time many years ago when I used to cut his hair. My kids went to your gym in Covington as littles. Praying for you and your family.

It was a shock to learn of Maury's passing and it is a reminder of how quickly our life changes. Such a sweet, happy, enjoyable personality to be around only says that God wanted to him for himself. Our family's prayers are sent to you at this most difficult time.
