Maurice Germaine Lawhorne, 52, departed this life on Monday, March 23, 2026, He was born on November 29,1974 to the late Deborah A. Lawhorne and Bobby
F. Steeples (Bunny), (late Minnie Ann Steeples) Grandparents, William E. Steeples, Sr. and Aubrey M. Steeples (Tillie.) and Magaline Jones Lawhorne.
In addition, to his parents and grandparents, Maurice was preceded in death by two brothers, Marcella Claxton (Marty) and Alfonso P. Lawhorne.
Maurice is survived by five siblings: three sisters, Barbara Ann Ortz (Ralph) of New Jersey, Cheryl Steeples of Brooklyn, New York, and Latrina Scott of Lynchburg, VA, two brothers, Bobby F. Steeples, Sr. (Rhonda) of North Carolina and Robert D. Lawhorne of Indianapolis, Indiana. One uncle William E. Steeples “Bunky” (Arlene),
and the one he always called his mom, Elder Janice Ford (Momma J)
Maurice went to E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, VA., where he also went to church. He was a member of Destiny Christian Fellowship where he loved to sing as well as his new church in Maryland and he sang on many choirs. Maurice also loved to cook, he went to culinary school and became a chef. He stayed on the grill and loved the cookout. Family was his life. Being around family and having fun traveling, laughing, and enjoying life was his thing. Always planning the next adventure. Maurice was a very hard-working man. He had a busy life in Maryland, but he made time for his family up until his health didn't allow him to do it anymore. He will leave behind a devoted friend and companion for many years, Lydell Poole and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Death takes the body.
God takes the soul.
Our mind holds the memories.
Our hearts keep the love,
Our faith let's us know we will meet again.

Professional services are being handled by March Funeral Home in Baltimore. In Virginia, the family will receive friends and loved ones at the home of his sister, Latrina Scott, located at 6232 Narragansett Dr., Lynchburg, VA.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Destiny Christian Fellowship.
