Maurice "Moe" Leistman

Maurice Gregory Leistman, 88, passed away June 29, 2025, at home with his daughters Cheryl and Janet by his side.
Maurice or "Moe," as he liked to be called, was born June 27, 1937, in Rochester, NY to Clarence and Marion Leistman. The eldest of two sons, Moe joined the Navy at age 17 and made a career of it, retiring in 1974 as Chief Machinist Mate after serving in the Vietnam Conflict. He then served 10 years in the Naval Reserves.
He would often say, the Navy was the best job he ever had. He loved serving his country and all who knew him will truly miss hearing all his stories and learning all the details of his service years and places to which he traveled.
Moe enjoyed woodworking in his retirement. He generously gifted his amazing work to many. His wooden creations will live on through the generations to come, always keeping Dad, Papa, Great Papa Moe alive.
Moe was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Marion (Parker) Leistman; two wives, Janice (Janie) Leistman, who passed away much too soon and Virginia (Jenny) Leistman, just two short years ago. Moe took loving care of both wives while battling their illnesses. He was also preceded in death by his niece, Lori Leistman.
Survivors include his younger brother, Gary (Alice) Leistman; his four daughters, Wanda, Cheryl Long (Doug), Jessie, and Janet Martenson (Steve); special nephews, Russell (Lisa) Leistman and Billy Letchworth; special nieces, Sue (Dan) Lafavor, Gilda Long, and Patsy Creekmore; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; many cousins; and many friends, who may not have been blood relatives, but always family. Lastly, but most certainly not least, he is survived by his loyal four-legged companion, Lucy.
The last months of Moe's life were spent with family and friends, making memories.
Following Moe's wishes, there will be no memorial service. The family will have a private burial at a later date.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the ALS Foundation in his name or any pet shelter of your choosing.
