Venna Maurine Bangerter Lewis, 86, passed away on November 17, 2025 in Layton, Utah. She was born November 2, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Homer and Venna (Holbrook) Bangerter. She was raised in Bountiful, Utah and Ontario, Oregon.

Maurine graduated from Ontario High School and went on to pursue an education at BYU. While attending school she met her sweetheart and the love of her life Emery “Bowen” Lewis. They married on June 23, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from BYU. Bowen and Maurine shared over 59 wonderful years together.

Maurine had a love for teaching and educated children at home and professionally. She taught all of her 10 children to play the piano and gave private lessons from home. She educated 5th graders at E.G. King Elementary, instructed music and was a tutor at Sylvan Learning Center. Maurine had a passion for music. In her youth she learned to play the accordion and clarinet.

Maurine enjoyed the holidays and hosting parties. She chased the Easter Bunny, enjoyed the parades and had a connection with Santa, inviting him to family Christmas parties. April Fool’s was celebrated with many practical jokes. She loved birthdays and made them special with her uniquely decorated cakes.

Maurine was skilled in working with her hands and enjoyed sewing, quilting and embroidery. She enjoyed making matching outfits for her large family. Maurine was also a master gardener and loved arranging flowers. She spent many hours growing and preserving food.

Maurine was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings including working at the Bountiful temple and serving three missions with Bowen. They served in Baltimore, Maryland, Guayaquil, Ecuador and Chicago, Illinois.

Maurine was preceded in death by her husband: Bowen Lewis; parents: Homer and Venna Bangerter; sisters: Barbara(Cecil) Bahr, Kathleen (Verne) Davis; son: Todd Lewis; son in law: Dean Harper and grandson: Colton Lewis.

Maurine is survived by her children: Sandra Harper (Dean) Lori Lewis (Andi), Sheri Lewis (Todd), Colette Condie (Russell), Linda Walker (Darryl), Caryn Blackburn (Justin), Terrell Lewis (Tana), Shane Lewis (Lisa), Kent Lewis (Nichole) Kevin Lewis (Debbie); 32 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 22 at 11:00 am at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N Fairfield Road, Layton Utah. Family and friends may visit Friday November 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the service.

The service will be live- streamed by going to www.lindquistmortuary.com and scrolling to the bottom of Maurine’s obituary page at 11:00 am.

Earthly angels brightened mom’s difficult journey with Lewy Bodie Dementia. The family would like to thank Sunridge Assisted Living of Layton, Inspiration Hospice and Home Health staff and Brenda Goodson for the many hours of care they gave to mom.
