Maury Finkelstein Obituary

Maury Aaron Finkelstein MT. PLEASANT - Maury Aaron Finkelstein, 80, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Cookie Seigel Finkelstein, entered into eternal rest on August 1, 2023. He will have a private graveside funeral service in the Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Cemetery, Huguenin Avenue. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. Condolence meal for immediate family only following the service. Celebration of life will be held at a future date. Maury was born August 7,1942, in Ossining, New York, son of the late Aaron Finkelstein and the late Ida Finkelstein. Graduating from LSU on a full scholarship, he earned a BA in Business and owned and operated Warren Fastenings South with his son. Maury had a love of golf, winning the Future Masters, and for three years in a row, both the Southern Interscholastic Golf Tournament and the Georgia Prep Gold Tournament. Maury won the SC Amateur at Charleston Country Club in 1970 and the Berkley Invitational five times. He was a member of Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Congregation for many years. Maury is survived by his wife of 62 years, Cookie; children: April Auerbach (Steve) of Isle of Palms, SC, and Eric Finkelstein (Andrea) of Summerville, SC; five grandchildren: Nicole, Lana, Logan, Dylan and Zac; and brother, Joel Finkelstein (Barbara) of Washington, DC. Maury will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and proud grandfather. His passion for golf at a young age earned him 18 full scholarship offers where he played and studied at LSU. He was the ultimate gentleman golfer, simply enjoying a day well spent with golfers of any skill level. Maury never met a stranger and made many friends during his lifetime. He enjoyed discussing world events, classical music, had an infectious optimism and often shared a joke with anyone that was lucky enough to share his day. In his memory, hug those you love and embrace humor every day. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Tee, 321 Wingo Way #201, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 or the Charleston Lowcountry Food Bank, 2864 Azalea Drive, North Charleston, SC 29405 in memoriam of Maury Finkelstein. A special thank you to his caregiver, Norma Moore, and Lutheran Hospice for their comfort and support during this time.
