Mavis Christenson

1931 - 2026

Long Prairie - Mavis Christensen, age 94 of Long Prairie, formerly of Northfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Wednesday morning, February 4, 2026, at her home.

Mavis Marie Babcock was born August 3, 1931, in Wells Minnesota. She grew up and lived mostly in southern Minnesota where she met the love of her life Kenneth. They married at the young age of 16 on November 8, 1947. They started their family and had 7 children, losing their first born Merril shortly after birth.

Mavis loved to cook and bake for her family. She taught those who wanted, how to bake her delicious bread and Lefsa. Mavis loved to sew and she made clothes for her husband Ken, for her children, as well as the girls' dolls. She loved a big garden and canned vegetables and fruits every year. Mavis was an expert at crocheting and made many blankets and doilies over the years and gave them away to her family and friends.

She had a close church family. Mavis and Ken enjoyed getting together with them and taking an annual church trip. Her faith and belief in God were strong and very important though out her life.

Her greatest joy was her husband, children, grand children and great grand children, nothing made her happier than having her family together filling up her home for reunions and holidays.

She and Ken were happily married for 78 plus years. Their love for each other has remained strong for all those years. They were blessed to live on their own until a year and half ago.

She was loved by all of us and will be greatly missed. Mavis loved her family! She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; her children, Phillip (Nancy), Janice (Larry), Steven (Denise), David (Ginger) Clifford (Janet) and Nancy (Terry); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters; infant son; and Grand Daughter.

A committal service will be held at 3 PM, Friday, February 6, 2026, at Northfield Cemetery and interment will follow.
