Mavis Marie Daniels, 88 of Harrison, passed away Sunday, February 22, at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison.
She was born February 3, 1938, at Marble Falls, on the north end of the old Dogpatch theme park, to Johnnie and Lavania Alspach Crow. On August 14, 1954, she married the love of her life, Jimmie Dean Daniels. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work, farming side by side until his death on April 10, 2016. They owned Jim's Floor Covering for 30 years.
Marie was an avid gardener. She was especially known for growing heirloom tomatoes, seeds that her family continues to grow today as a living reminder of her care and tradition. She loved gardening, growing and picking blackberries, and canning the fruits of her labor for herself and for her family. She took pride in tending cattle and was never afraid of hard work. In the summertime she raked hay for her husband, and for several years she ran her own combine, combining fescue seed alongside the men in the fields. Mavis was no stranger to early mornings and long days. Her hands were rarely still, and her home was often filled with the sweet rewards of her work and her quiet, reserved manner.
Mavis visited the Pentecostal Tabernacle, where her daughter and son-in-law serve as pastors. She loved and cared for her family in her own way. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five siblings, Daphene Daniels, Carl Crow, an infant brother, Herman Crow, and Ella Davidson.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen and Steve Nelson of Flippin, and Linda and David Shekels of Harrison; a son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Jane Daniels of Nixa, Mo.; three grandchildren, Matthew Shekels (Terrie) and Mandy Mistler (Brent), all of Harrison, and Benjamin Daniels (Lakyn) of Nixa; six great-grandchildren, Andrew, Caleb, and Aaron "J. D." Shekels, and Luke, Levi, and Elijah Mistler; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 27, at Holt Memorial Chapel, with Pastors David and Matthew Shekels officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Holt Memorial Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Shekels, Benjamin Daniels, Brent Mistler, Luke Mistler, Levi Mistler, Andrew Shekels, and Roger Waugh. Honorary pallbearers will be David, Bert, Larry, and Darrell Daniels, Rick Crow, nephews and nieces, and her great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, at the funeral home.
