Mavis Gallegos Obituary
Between Troy, Auburn, and University of West Florida, Mavis obtained a bachelor's degree in education and two master's degrees in counseling. She enjoyed a long career, initially teaching first and second grade, and then becoming the guidance counselor at Cherokee Elementary School until her retirement.
Mavis was beloved by all who knew her and was bestowed with the great honor of Teacher of the Year in 1975.
Mavis was preceded in death by her husband of almost 73 years, Carlos T. Gallegos, and her son, Ricky Gallegos.
She is survived by her children, Carla Harlan, Jacqueline Gallegos-Portokalis, and Judith Gallegos; her grandchildren, Jennifer Fedora, Ross and Erika Loney; and great-grandson, Jacob Fedora.
The family will gather for a graveside service at 11 am on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Magnolia Cemetery, 222 North Park Street, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433.
