Mavis Marie Wood Morris born on August 10, 1937 went home to be with the Lord on September 25, 2025, surrounded by love.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Hildred Wood and Gracie Edith Meadows Wood; her husband William B Morris; her son William B Morris Jr; daughter Shirley Ann Fortune; granddaughter Denise Morris McDonald; and siblings H.M. Wood, Gladys Stephens, Joyce Morris, and Nelson E Wood.

She is survived by her son James Robert Morris and wife Donna of Ferrum, Va; daughter in law Donna Morris of Charlottesville, Va; son in law James Michael Fortune of Louisa, Va; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Mavis worked for the Virginia Industrial for the Blind. She loved crocheting, was an avid reader, and loved going on cruises and trips with her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, who were everything to her. You could always find her in the kitchen cooking up a meal.

A special mention to Michelle, Ryan, Brianna, Ryan Jr. and Robby for continued care and support. Also, thank you to Legacy Hospice.

Family night will be at Hill and Wood (Charlottesville) on Thursday October 2 from 5 – 7pm. Graveside service will be at Free Union Church of the Brethren in Free Union on Friday October 3 at 11am.
