Mavis Keith Singletary

Mavis Keith Hursey Singletary, 88, of Tar Heel went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theron David Hursey and Ruby King Hursey, her husband Lynn Singletary, son Jackie Singletary and brothers David and Floyd Hursey. Mavis leaves behind one daughter, Wanda S. Herring (Terry) of Tar Heel, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jack Singletary (Sandra) and their children Nolan, Andrew and Breanna; Jeromy Singletary (Candice) and their children Chastity and Zach (Tiffany); Kody Singletary, Kayla Guyton (Justin) and their child Bladen, and Lyndsey Powers (Micah) and two great-great grandchildren Ezra and Adah.Mavis was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was also a devoted church member, Sunday School teacher and church treasurer. Even at an early age Mavis was an over achiever. She always gave anything she did her very best. In ninth grade she was voted Miss Tar Heel School and her senior year she was Valedictorian of her graduating class. She worked for years for the Tar Heel Rescue Squad. She adored her family and loved her home church, Tar Heel Baptist. She taught her children it was always better to give than to receive and never fail to pay your tithes to the church. Her favorite thing to do was shop but she was very frugal about it. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and loved to watch the hummingbirds and butterflies fluttering around. Mavis made every holiday extra special, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. Her devotion, determination, and dedication to the Lord, as well as her family, will live on in the memories of her family for an eternity.The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 pm on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Tar Heel Baptist Church followed by a funeral service at 2 pm with the Reverend Tommy Puryear and the Reverend Warren Hill officiating. Burial will follow the services in the church cemetery.
