Mavis Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Howard K. Hill Funeral Services - Hartford on Feb. 16, 2026.
Mavis Smith, 92, of Hartford, Connecticut, entered into eternal rest surrounded by the love of her family. Born with a gentle spirit and a heart devoted to service, she lived a long, faithful, and grace-filled life.

Mavis was the beloved wife of Lloyd Smith for 67 years, a partnership grounded in devotion, faith, and unwavering love. Together they raised four children, who were the joy of her life: Howard Smith, Michael Smith and wife Melanie, Petre-Ann McAdams and her husband Craig, and Garfield Smith and his wife Renita. She cherished her role as a mother and was equally proud to be a grandmother to Caleb Smith, Jayden McAdams, Caroline Smith, Olivia McAdams, Christopher Smith, and Jennifer Smith, and a great-grandmother to Jordan Fulton, Breigh-Ann Smith, Maverick Smith, and Rogue Smith. Mavis also leaves behind her cousin Errol McCreath.

For many years, Mavis worked at Aetna as a Disbursement Analyst, where she was known for her reliability, diligence, and kindness to colleagues. Outside of work, she flourished as a member of the Red Hat Honeys and the Vermont Girls where her warmth and humor made her a beloved friend within the group.

Mavis had a soul made for service. She loved to volunteer and had an uncanny sensitivity to the needs of others. She was a friend to everyone she met-quiet, gracious, attentive, and deeply caring. Her faith guided her life, and she was a devoted member of her church community. She delighted in teaching Vacation Bible School and Sunday School, sharing God's love with generations of children. Many would describe her as a "woman after God's own heart."

Her passions were simple and beautiful-flowers, baking, and cooking. She expressed her love through every bouquet arranged, every cake baked, and every meal prepared. Her home was a place of warmth, comfort, and welcome.
