Mavis Ann Martin Turner. was born on March 18, 1944, to Holmes and Mattie Martin in Ville Platte, Louisiana. She passed away Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the age of 81. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, December 27th, 2025, at Friendship Baptist Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home in Vill Platte.
In the early 1970s Mavis moved to Illinois to help her brother James. Mavis quickly found a church and became a member of Clearview Baptist Church, where she met Allen. Few years later, married and started a family with her Christian faith at the center of her life. When she wasn’t busy with family and friends, she enjoyed bird watching, being creative with sewing, and singing. In the kitchen she made best oatmeal raisin cookies and zucchini bread. She brought the Louisiana cooking to Illinois family.
In her later years, she found fellowship in Crossroads Community Church then friendship at her last earthy home. Mavis was kept busy with being on the team for resident activities, attending church services with her brother, Kenny.
She survived by her daughter; Cindy Ann Turner, Phoenix, AZ; her brother; James Martin, Rockholds, KY; and a bunch of nieces and nephews, Jimmy Martin; Larry J. Martin; Ricky Martin (Angie); Theresa ‘Terry' Pappas (John); Jeff Pappas (Kathy); Betty Manuel (Lee); Jerry West (Kira); Eric West (Patricia); Kevin West (Anita). Mavis was blessed with 22 great nieces and nephews; 19 great greats; and 1 great-great-great niece. Honorary daughters; Joni (Brad) Ritchey, Milwaukee, WI; Kristy (Dan) Meyer, Las Cruces, NM; Elizabeth (Doug) Study, Lake Villa, IL.
Mavis is preceded in death by her parents, Holmes and Mattie Martin; his sister, Shirley West; her brother, Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Martin, her niece and nephew Vickie and Keith West; her niece, Cheryl Martin; her great nephew, James West; sisters-in-law, Darlene Martin, and Phyllis Martin. The father of her child, Allen Turner.
