Obituary of Max D. Coons
Max D. Coons, the son of Floyd Coons and Nellie (Packer) Coons, was born April 27, 1937 in rural Belleville, KS and passed away on May 3, 2024 at his residence in rural Cuba, KS at the age of 87.
Max grew up in rural Belleville, graduating from Belleville High School. He then served with the United State Army from 1955 until 1958, attaining the rank of Specialist. Following his discharge, he returned to the local area.
Max worked for Derowitsch plumbing and construction and later joined Rural Gas in Belleville, KS where he was involved with fertilizer application, Rural Heat & Air, custom welding & fabrication and delivered propane to rural customers for 33 years. He also did farming and custom baling and harvesting to help support his family.
On March 9, 1975, he was united in marriage to Jane (Milstead) Trecek. The couple made their home in rural Cuba, Kansas.
Max was a member of the VFW Post in Belleville, Kansas, and the Cuba American Legion, Cuba, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Nellie Coons; brother, Robert Coons, and sisters, Marjorie Witt and Helen Horner.
Max is survived by his wife, Jane Coons of rural Cuba, KS; children, Vicki Coons of Belleville, KS and Max (Jennifer) Coons of Granite Canon, WY; step children, Danny Trecek, Lori (Bill) Lovewell of Hays, KS, and Russell (Carla) Trecek of Manhattan, KS; 6 grandchildren, Brian, Stacy, Avery, Macee, Hunter, and Caitlynn; several great grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Larkins of Belleville, KS; Nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Visitation and viewing will be held from 5 PM until 7 PM on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at the Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, Belleville, KS.
Cremation will follow the visitation with inurnment and military rites to be held at a later date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, please direct cards and memorials to the family with the memorials to be shared with the local 4-H Club or FFA chapters.
