A visitation for Max R. Cox, of Blythewood, SC will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel 1139 Hwy 1 North, Lugoff SC from 4:00-5:30 PM. A graveside service will be held in late spring at the Grand Lake Cemetery in Colorado, snow permitting.
Mr. Cox passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024 at the age of 83. Born on September 14, 1940 in Brady, TX he was the son of the late Alva Forrest Cox and Ollie Emma Boyles. Born of the Silent Generation, Max quietly raised his family, managed his business (Cox Equipment in Gillette, WY), and served his community. Max maintained strong friendships and business relationships with hundreds of individuals while working in the Oil and Gas industry for over 60 years. Max never forgot where he came from and Brady, TX was always near and dear to his heart. Known as the Brady Bulldog Ironman, Max was noted for having played varsity football for the Brady Bulldogs during all four years of high school. During this time, The Brady Bulldogs, with Max under center, won the 1959 2A Texas State Football Championship.
Max was preceded in death by his wonderful wife of 45 years, Lois Kaye Syme Cox. Max is survived by his children, Max (Deanna) Cox Jr., Frank (Thana) Cox, Shawn Cox, Michelle (David) Harper and Max Cox III; grandchildren, Joshua (Sarah) Cox, Kyle Cox, Brandon (Kat) Harper, Jonathon (Aimee) Harper, Christopher Harper, Kirstin (David) Boyd, Nickie (Josh) Tovar, Calla (Justis) Gravley and Colt (Emily) Cox; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Thiel-Mayer Animal Shelter, 128 Black River Rd, Camden, SC 29020. (Grandpa loved his dogs.)
Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
