Max Edward Dacus, Sr. of Jonesboro, AR went to be with the Lord at the age of 93 on Monday, February 16, 2026, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on February, 14, 1933 in Light, AR to Lon and Hattie Dacus.

It was no coincidence that Max was born on Valentine’s Day; he possessed the sweetest heart to match. He married the love of his life, Patsy Witt, on February 4, 1950, and they became inseparable. They were married for 76 years, and all who knew them could see their love for one another.

Max was an entrepreneur from a young age having been born to sharecroppers; he grew to become a respected businessman in the community and was known for developing and managing commercial properties, residential apartments as well as owning multiple businesses over his life including Dacus Discount Furniture and Dacus Mini Warehouses. He had the ability to connect with anyone and loved people. He enjoyed taking someone younger under his wing to mentor. He was actively involved in local politics in his early years of business, enjoyed playing racquetball, driving a tractor, and raising cows. He was a founding member of North Main Baptist Church where he faithfully attended for over 40 years. He served as a deacon and both Sunday School and Training Union Director. He later attended Central Baptist Church and very much enjoyed the senior adult ministry.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Dacus, of the home, his children, Carolyn (Jim) Andrews, Darlene (Jerry) Buchanan, and Max (Jennifer) Dacus, Jr, all of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Jimmy (Susan) Andrews of Broken Arrow, OK, Pamela Andrews, Megan (Nick) Nicolini, Max Timothy (Mikah) Dacus, and Ella Dacus, all of Jonesboro; great grandchildren, Lucas Andrews of Moore, OK, Mason Andrews of Broken Arrow, OK, Jack Nicolini, Hudson Dacus, and Poppy Nicolini all of Jonesboro; and one brother, Bill Dacus, of Jonesboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Dacus, Luchiel Dacus, one sister, Ruby Cremeens, and one granddaughter, Jill Dacus.

Visitation services will be held at Emerson’s Funeral Home in Jonesboro from 1:00-2:00 pm on Saturday, March, 7th with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm. The eulogy will be read by Dewayne Johnson with remembrances by grandson, Jimmy Andrews, and Pastor Jay Jacobs officiating. Grandsons are honored to serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are his long-time business partner, Ed Watson, Scotty Cook, Trey Chism, Ricardo Castillo and nephews, Sonny Dacus, Chris Dacus, Danny Dacus, and Tony Dacus. The family would like to give a special thank you to his caregivers, Marsha Barber, Dana Duvall, Mattie Russell, Sherry Copeland and Donna Tarry.  Mr. Dacus will be laid to rest at Philadelphia Cemetery with a private burial.

Lasting memorials should be made to Williams Baptist College or Central Baptist Church.
