Max Dannenberg Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rentschler Family Mortuaries -Simmons-Rentschler Mortuary - Smith Center on May 29, 2025.
Max Arden Dannenberg of Gaylord, Kansas passed away in his home on May 24, 2025, at the
age of 84.
Max was born on August 9, 1940, to Albert Henry and Magdalene Elizabeth (Pilcher) Dannenberg in Portis, Kansas. He
was the youngest of three children and grew up on the family farm south of Gaylord. He was
baptized and confirmed in faith at Christ Lutheran Church of Gaylord and graduated from
Gaylord High School in 1958. Shortly after graduation, he joined the Army National Guard.
On October 25, 1959, Max married Helen Beckmann and they spent 59 years together. They
were blessed with three children: Maurice, Mark, and Marsha.
Max was a lifelong resident of the Gaylord community and spent his life doing what he loved,
farming. He was dedicated, hard-working, and being outside on the farm or taking care of his
cattle brought him great joy. He was always happy to have his grandchildren or nieces and
nephews come out to the farm and ride along in the combine for harvest. Max was active in his
church at St. John Lutheran Athol, serving on the church counsel and singing in the men's choir.
He and Helen also enjoyed many years of square dancing with friends. Max loved being outside;
fishing, hunting, and target practice with his grandsons, tinkering in his shop, smoking his meats
and cheeses - and so many years "Macky" spent pitching and playing softball for the local men's
teams.
Max never knew a stranger. He could talk to anyone and always had a story. He was generous
and could often be found distributing a block of his smoked cheese or a bag of sweet corn. He
loved traveling to visit his children and grandchildren, attend their sporting events, and never
missed a party.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lawrence ("Pete") Dannenberg, and his
wife Helen.
He is survived by his children; Maurice (Inci) Dannenberg of Wildwood, MO, Mark (Jocelyn)
Dannenberg of Littleton, CO, Marsha (Tony) Fangman of Overland Park, KS, his grandchildren;
Kenan (Ashton) Dannenberg, Erek (Molly) Dannenberg, Devran (Erin) Dannenberg, Ellie, Jack,
Sam, and Logan Fangman, as well as his sister, Betty Kirchhoff of Gaylord and numerous inlaws,
nieces, and nephews.
