Max Byron Lake, 89, of Asheboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Max was born on May 21, 1936, in Ames, Iowa, to Galen and Ella Lake, who preceded him in death. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and went on to dedicate 40 years of his professional life as a fisheries biologist with the Department of Fish and Wildlife-a career he truly loved.

An avid outdoorsman, Max found great joy in fishing, hunting, hiking, and spending time outdoors, especially when shared with his precious grandchildren. He was a devoted deacon at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church, where his faith and service touched many lives.

Max was married to his beloved wife, Carolyn Lake, for 59 years. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, faith, and partnership.

In addition to his wife Carolyn, Max is survived by his sister, Marsha Forsyth; his daughters, Rebecca Holloway (husband John) and Patricia Lake; and his grandchildren, Brenna Wallace Maines and Jake Colton Holloway, all of whom he cherished deeply.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the compassionate staff of Hospice of Randolph for the amazing care and support they provided during Max's final days.

Max will be remembered for his gentle spirit, love of nature, devotion to his family and faith, and a life well lived.
