Max Timmons Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 18, 2026.
Whether skiing down a favorite slope, traveling the world, or canoeing a river with his scout troop, Max Wayne Timmons always approached life with a positive attitude, a wry grin on his face and, usually, a well-worn San Francisco 49ers hat on his head. He died on January 29, 2026, at the age of 88, with his wife Cynthia, daughter Cheryl and step-son Rick by his side in Zephyrhills, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Haase) Timmons, son Michael Timmons, brothers William and Richard, and sisters LeElla and Barbara. He is survived by his

wife, Cynthia Glover Timmons; daughter Cheryl (Timmons) Vincent; stepchildren Jon Jewell, Vicki Tafoya and Rick Jewell; and four grandchildren. Max was born in Dayton, Indiana, in 1937 to Everett and Muriel Timmons. He grew up on his family's farm in Grand Junction, Colorado, where he developed his taste for peaches (Colorado peaches, of course, because they were the best). He attended Grand Junction High School before heading to Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, where he studied Engineering and graduated in 1960.

It was at Colorado State where he met Mary Haase, who became his wife in 1959. They moved to Sunnyvale, California, where Max began a lifelong career with Lockheed

Missiles and Space. That career afforded them opportunities for world travel, and led to Max's love of the British Isles (and, as every friend knew, Guinness beer). Together, Max and Mary raised Michael and Cheryl, supporting them through Scouting, 4-H and the raising of puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Max was an active Scout leader, a Freemason and a member of the Presbyterian church.

Following Mary's death from cancer in 1996, Max met Cindy, who became his wife in 1997. They traveled the world together, with adventures that included driving the roads of the U.S. in an RV, hitting the high seas on many cruises, and trekking on an African Safari. They moved from California to the Tampa Bay, Florida, area in 2020, later moving to the city of Wesley Chapel.

A celebration of life is being planned for this spring. The family requests donations in Max's name be made to the California Masonic Foundation or Scouting America.
