MAX A. TOWELL JR., 72, of Ogallala, passed away December 3, 2025, at his home.
Max was born December 25, 1952, in Madisonville, Kentucky, to Max Alfred Sr. and Viola (Kirk) Towell. He grew up in South Dakota, and in 1968, Max and his family moved to Ogallala, where he graduated from Ogallala High School. He later attended York College.
Max married June Ellen Newport on May 7, 1976, in Lakin, Kansas. He worked hard throughout his life and owned and operated the Taste of Paradise donut shop for over 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, June Towell of Ogallala; children, Brock (Audrey) Towell of Cheyenne, WY; Cody (Rebecca) Towell, Season (Coy) Gager, Dustin (Sherry) Towell, all of Ogallala; 15 grandchildren; siblings, Elaine (Roger) Armstrong, Lois (Keith) Brown, all of Ogallala; and Jay (Linea Bonham) Towell of Franklin, NE; his mother-in-law, Virda Newport; and siblings-in-law, Don (Jeanie) Newport, Joyce Kiesel, Carol (Keith) Rexroat, Dan Newport, Danette (Alex) Holmes, Mark Newport, Helen Grubbs, Christina (Kelly) Johnson, Kirk (Bobbie) Newport, Janelle (Eddie) Andersen, as well as several extended relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Robert Newport, and brothers-in-law, Ron and Phillip Newport and Edward Grubbs.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala.
Services will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 11 a.m. at GracePoint Church in Ogallala with Pastor Curtis Tschetter officiating. Burial will be Monday, December 15, 2025 at 11:00 CST a.m. at the Lakin Cemetery in Lakin, Kansas.
A memorial has been established in Max's memory for later designation by the family. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.
