Maxie Reeves Bryant LAURENS -- Maxie Reeves Bryant, age 75, of 3725 Neely Ferry Road, Hickory Tavern Community, and husband of 57 years to Mary Johnson Bryant, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, October 11, 2015. Born in Ware Shoals, he was the son of the late James Marvin Bryant, Sr. and Lois Reeves Bryant. Mr. Bryant was a member of Union Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, Sunday School Director and Church Clerk. He was also a member of the Ready Sunday School Class and the choir. Maxie retired as Director of Maintenance from South Carolina Regional Housing Authority #1 in 2002. Prior to this, he was a paint contractor and a talented wood worker. Mr. Bryant also served in the S.C. National Guard. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Michael Bryant (Connie) of Hickory Tavern, Scott Bryant (Barbara) of Lexington; one daughter, Merry Moore (Jim) of Saluda; two sisters, Robbie Fulmer (Larry) of Charleston and Shelby Cantrell (Michael) of Monks Corner; two sisters- in-law, Ellen Bryant of Hodges and Jackie Bryant of Donalds; five grandchildren, Chris Bryant (Wendy), Adam Bryant (Ashton), Lauren Simmons (Ricky) all of Hickory Tavern, Warren Josey of Saluda, and Jessica Rodgers (Travis) of Irmo; three great-grandchildren, Emmaleigh Simmons and Emma Bryant both of Hickory Tavern and Corbin Rodgers of Irmo and one expectant great-granddaughter, Maggie Bryant. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, James Bryant, Billy Bryant, and Wayne Bryant and his two loving pets Goldie and Trouble. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, October 12, 2015, at The Kennedy Mortuary. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Union Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Chris Garrison with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 105 Lovell Dr., Greenville, SC 29607 or Union Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, 536 Old Quaker Church Road, Laurens, SC 29360.
