Maxine Ann Buttram

Maxine Ann (Heston) Buttram, 82, of rural Oskaloosa, died Sunday, October 15, 2023 at her home. Maxine was born February 24, 1941 at Belvue, KS, the daughter of David Joseph and LaVerne Mary Siefert Heston. She was a 1961 graduate of Ozawkie Rural High School. She worked as a C.N.A for many years at Hickory Pointe Nursing Home in Oskaloosa, the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital and Geriatric Center in Winchester and Valley Manor in Valley Falls. As a mother and homemaker, she was also an accomplished seamstress and Tupperware representative. Maxine wore many hats and was active in many civic organizations. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Perry, a member of the Fairview Township Board of Directors, the Fairview Volunteer Fire Dept. Aux, and Jefferson County Hospice board of directors. She was an organizing member of Jefferson County Relay for Life and a precinct committee member and longtime treasurer of Jefferson County Democrats. Maxine was a founding member and longtime leader of the Fairview 4-H Club.
She married Rex Carol Buttram on August 23, 1958 at Meriden, KS, he preceded her in death on March 24, 2023. Survivors include, one son, Brian A. (Vickie) Buttram, Sr, Oskaloosa, one daughter, Debra Buttram Ussery, Lecompton, five brothers, Joe (Sharon) Heston, Meriden, Dale (Jerry) Heston, Roy (Marjorie) Heston, Duane (Linda) Heston, John (Delia) Heston, three sisters, Joan Pentlin, Rhonda (George) Robbins and Gaylene Heston, all of Oskaloosa, 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, three daughters, infant Vonda Marshell Buttram, Cheryl R. Buttram Carver, Lynn K. Buttram McQuillan, two brothers, Arthur "Art" Heston and Ronald D. Heston.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 21, 2023 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Perry. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with Rosary Recitation at 7:00 PM, October 20, 2023 at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa. Inurnment will be at St. Aloysius Cemetery, Meriden.
