Maxine's Funeral Service

Ruby Maxine Crawford, departed from this earth on January 7, 2025. Surrounded by family throughout the last days of her life, she went peacefully to be with the Lord at the age of 92.

Maxine was born on March 30, 1932, at her home near Inola Oklahoma to Orval and Grace Day. She was the second of 7 children – Her oldest sister Marie Weaver, twin Nadine Hinkle, sister Hilda Thompson and brothers Bud, Larry and Jim Day.

Maxine was a graduate of Adair High School, where she met the love of her life, Bill Crawford. Bill and Maxine married on November 28, 1951, and celebrated 69 years of marriage before he went to be with the Lord on February 26, 2021. They enjoyed many good times together with their large family and friends.

Maxine raised her children, then began her career selling Avon. She worked at Whitaker Children’s Home until it closed where she was a substitute mother caring for children who lived there.

She took great pride in her large and beautiful garden, caring for the chickens, and mowing her own lawn, all of which she continued to do until her last months of life. Maxine was a hard worker, never afraid to get dirty, loved doing her chores and all things outdoors. Bill and Maxine spent countless days at their Rose Hill Farm raising cattle, hiking, cutting firewood, and having cookouts with family.

Maxine enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, travelling to the mountains with Bill and the family, crocheting and lots of puzzling on the side. Maxine was a great cook, known for her always perfect homemade hot rolls and delicious cinnamon rolls. She loved being in the kitchen and would happily let any of the kids help her out or teach a lesson or two. She loved having company, telling stories and always looked forward to her Tuesday lunches with Bessie, Ruthie, Brenda, Glenda, and her Thursday “Joe (Crawford) Days”. Many stories were told sitting around that kitchen table over cups of coffee.

Maxine is survived by children, Glenda (Mike) Wright of Tulsa, William (Diane) Crawford of Pryor, sister Hilda (Walter) Thompson of Inola, She was ever so proud to be called Grammy by her grandchildren, Chris (Julie) Arnold, Brandon (Christy) Arnold, Hannah (Paul) Trytsman, Hillary Wright, Haley Mathis and Amber Hurt. Great grandchildren, Chelby and Katlyn Arnold, Josh and Jarod (Casey) Arnold, Meagan, Molly and Mariah Hurt, Ruby and June Trytsman. Great great grandchildren Wayllen and Wrenleigh. Many nieces, nephews, and all the Crawford family will miss her smiles and stories.

Maxine will be welcomed into the arms of Jesus by husband Bill Crawford, daughter Linda Arnold, grandson Dustin Crawford, sisters Nadine Hinkle and Marie Weaver, and brothers Bud, Larry and Jim Day.

We find comfort in knowing that our beloved Ruby Maxine “Grammy” is at peace, no longer in pain and that her mind and body have been restored. She is home and has been reunited with her love, Bill and all of those that have gone before her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Clarehouse at clarehouse.org or via telephone at 918.893.6150. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Clarehouse and Saint Francis Hospice for their compassionate care of Maxine.
