Mrs. Maxine Tanner Hamilton passed away from her earthly home at the age of 90 years old on February 11, 2024. She was born on October 5, 1933, in Kirkland, GA. to Dodger and Opal Tanner and was a lifelong resident of Atkinson & Berrien Counties. Maxine was a Teacher and Librarian in the Atkinson County School system for many years, ending her career as Acting Director of the Satilla Regional Library System in 1992. She was an active member for many years in the Methodist church, but since moving to Nashville, she made a new church home at Riverside Baptist. After retiring from teaching, she spent most of her time gardening and farming. She enjoyed being outdoors and visiting with friends and family. She especially enjoyed the many years she spent with her grandchildren, teaching them to work with her in the garden and spending time outside with them. Mrs. Hamilton is survived by her three children and their families, Roy and Kathie Deen of Milledgeville, GA, Angie and Alan Dratch of Marietta, GA. and Charlie and Beatriz Deen of Austin, TX. She also leaves 5 grandchildren, Billy Deen (Shelly), Beth Baker (Michael), Ben Dratch, Sam Dratch, and Ricardo Deen along with 2 great-grandchildren, Ryann Baker, and Owen Baker. Also surviving is a sister, Patsy Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dodger and Opal Tanner, sister Dodgerie Davis, son Billy Deen, and husband Jack Hamilton.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hamilton are to be held, Friday, February 16, at 1:00 p.m. at Relihan Funeral Home with Rodney Carter officiating and words of condolence by Rev. Freddie Stone. Musical selections included “I Won’t Have to Cross Jordon Alone" and a special poem she requested recited by grandson, Ben Dratch. Interment will follow in Willacoochee Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. Hamilton will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. at Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga.
Serving as active pallbearers are: Ben Dratch, Sam Dratch, Billy Deen, Ricky Carter, Van Vickers and Alan Dratch.
