Maxine Frances Logan Helms, 81, of Marion, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Mountain Ridge Health & Rehabilitation.
She was born in Rutherford County on March 20, 1944 to the late Cornelius Sylvanous Logan and Maude Selena Whiteside Logan Bradley.
Maxine retired from Baxter Healthcare. She was a longtime member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Lure and was known for her love for the Lord and for gospel music. Maxine was a wonderful cook and enjoyed sharing her food with her family. A fan of the Washington Redskins and an avid collector of all things Peanuts Gang, Maxine looked forward to watching the Peanuts Gang any time she was able. She had an adventurous spirit and spent time camping and riding motorcycles with her late husband. She loved her family deeply and will be missed by all.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd Lytle; her second husband, Terry Helms; and fifteen brothers and sisters, Hannah Freeman, Margerie Whiteside, Ruth Greene, Alice Whiteside, Ina Mae Hamilton, Beatrice Harris, Fannie Mae Mosley, Grover Logan, Simon Logan, Martin Logan, Thomas Logan, Clarence Logan, Sylvanous Logan, Jr., Booker T. Logan, and Elbert Logan.
She is survived by her children, Marilyn “Lynn” Greenlee (Nancy), Valorie Elias (Bill), Cynthia Shade (Rufus), Derrick Lytle (Jenny), and Lorraine Lytle; her grandchildren, Tesha Greenlee, Michael King, Derrick Lytle, Karman Henry, Valerie Lytle, Chaven Lytle, Jordan Lytle, Brendan Avena, Symone Shade, Derika Lytle, and Jordan Logan; her great-grandchildren, Tierra King, Jayden Daniels, Rihana Daniels, Dontavian Adkins, Jayda Adkins, Kamari Ledbetter, Xavier Adkins, Harmony Lytle, Anorah Jackson, and Rhian Brown; two sisters, Mable Dickey and Betty Jean Lawrence; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A service in celebration of Maxine’s life will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Leroy Kelly officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
