Maxine Koon Obituary
Maxine Hilley Koon, 71, of Newberry, moved to her heavenly home with the love of her life, Pastor Vernon Lee Koon, Jr. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Prisma Health Richland.
Born on May 3, 1954, in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Elbert and Hazel Farmer Hilley. She attended Piedmont Technical College and was a CNA in the home health industry. Her greatest passion was teaching at Newberry Christian Academy. Maxine was a member of the Old Time Holiness Mission.
She is survived by daughters, Tammy (Wayne) Gibson, Tracy Hawkins, Trudy (Mark) Wilkes all of Newberry and Tiffany (Philip) Adams of Raeford, NC; a sister, Mona Hilley Taylor of Newberry; thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home by Pastor Tammy Gibson and Rev. Mark Wilkes. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.
The family will be at her home and receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Old Time Holiness Mission, 2004 Colony Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Blake Hawkins, Hunter Gibson, Austin Hawkins, Luke Wilkes, Adam Wilkes, Marvin Sweat, Thomas Miller, Bryce McKelvey and Collins Miller.
