Maxine McGuire Obituary

Maxine Daron McGuire, 92, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother ("Grandma and Nene"), great grandmother and friend passed away on December 31, 2023, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Born in Honey Creek, Illinois on October 7, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Everett and May Daron, and sister to the late Ruby Howard, Lauren Wilson and brother, Dan Daron.

Maxine lived on a farm in Flatrock, Illinois where she helped with the animals, did chores around the house and attended grade school. Maxine attended high school in Robinson, Illinois. Upon graduation, Maxine was recruited by the F.B.I. and worked for J. Edgar Hoover in Washington, D.C. She received a letter for her outstanding work ethic from Mr. Hoover.

Maxine moved in 1948 to Virginia. She met the love of her life, Jack McGuire, while boarding with Mary McGuire (Jack's mother) in Alexandria. It was love at first sight! They were married on May 21, 1955 and celebrated a beautiful and loving relationship for 65 years.

Maxine left the F.B.I. in 1956 to move with her Jack to San Bernadino, California where they started their family. In 1965 they moved back to Virginia. Forty years were spent in Round Hill where they continued to raise their children. Maxine worked as a teller at the Round Hill National Bank for several years. In 1972 she went to work for the Army Corp of Engineers as an accountant at Mount Weather in Bluemont, Virginia. She traveled overseas with her job and retired in 1989.

Maxine loved watching tennis, baseball, golf and an occasional football game. She was an excellent cook and loved trying new recipes. She was very supportive of her grandchildren and their extracurricular activities. She attended many track meets, soccer games, football games and tennis matches. Maxine loved playing Scrabble, cards and Rummikub with the family and friends.

Maxine and Jack traveled to all 50 states. They remained active with friends throughout the years by meeting weekly for lunches, movies and games. Maxine loved playing slot machines and was a very lucky winner most of the time!

In 2018, Maxine and Jack moved to the Willows at Meadow Branch in Winchester, Virginia. Maxine started each day reading the newspaper, watching the news, working either a sudoku or crossword puzzle, and worked continually on board puzzles. Maxine enjoyed her life at the Willows until her passing.

Maxine is survived by her sister Alma Laser of Utah; sister-in-law, Sally Daron of Colorado; her son, Kevin McGuire and wife, Babe of Leesburg, Virginia and daughter, Kathleen McGuire Szabo and husband, Gabe of Winchester, Virginia; granddaughters, Brandy McGuire Spencer and Madison McGuire Moss; 3 grandsons, Seann and Shannon Chambers and Chase Anders; 7 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews scattered across the country.

Maxine's kind heart and love of her family and friends will be deeply missed.
