Maxine G. Merrill, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and community member, peacefully passed away on February 12, 2024, at Countyside Lakes Assisted Living Center in Port Orange, Florida. Her loving husband, Charles R. Merrill, and her daughter, Tawndra R. Haynes, preceded her in death. Born and raised in Stonington, Maine and NY. Maxine married Charles in 1951 and raised three children together. She dedicated her spare time to volunteering, particularly with special needs children, showcasing her compassionate and nurturing nature.
Upon retirement in 1985, Maxine and Charles relocated to Deland, Florida, where they relished in leisurely days boating on the St. John River. Later, in 2002, Maxine settled in Daytona Beach Shores, where she actively engaged in community life. She enthusiastically served on the social committee at her condominium, enjoyed traveling and maintained an active lifestyle by exercising with her friends at the Shores Community Center.
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Shellie Jo Merrill of Port Orange, FL., her son, Charles N. Merrill and his wife, Kathy of Hermon, ME., four grandchildren; Melissa, Charlie, Neal and Daniel; five great grandchildren; Samuel, Hannah, Benjamin, Amelia and Maxwell.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Countryside Assisted Living Center staff for their unwavering care and compassion during Maxine's time there.
Maxine will be remembered fondly for her kindness, generosity and vibrant spirit. She leaves behind cherished memories that will forever live on our hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
Services to be held at a later date in Bangor, Maine.
