Funeral services for Maxwell R. Taunton, Sr., 85, of Farmerville will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Farmerville United Methodist Church with Bro. Truman Stagg and Bro. Kurt Auger officiating. Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home. Mr. Taunton joined his Heavenly Father on January 12, 2011. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, a true southern gentleman and a fine Christian man. He achieved many things, yet he never forgot where he came from. His smile drew you to him and his sincerity kept you there. He treated everyone fairly when it would have been so easy not to. He enjoyed golfing, boating and fishing. He retired as a drilling superintendent with Murphy Oil, served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force during WWII, was a member of Farmerville United Methodist Church and a former member of the Farmerville Masonic Lodge #53. Preceding him in death were his parents, Osbern & Clarice Taunton; his 1st wife of 44 years, Dolores 'Dot' Hicks Taunton; a granddaughter, Dori Long Weaver and 2 brothers, Glaycen & Maurice 'Duck' Taunton. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janette Russell Taunton of Farmerville; 2 sons: Tim Taunton & wife, Melody of Ruston and Max Taunton, Jr. and wife, Janet of Farmerville; 2 daughters: Phyllis Long & husband, Jimmy of Baton Rouge, LA and Jerry Preaus & husband, John of Farmerville; 8 grandchildren: Rene' Auger & husband, Kurt; Robin Blanchard & husband, Greg; Brooke Robinson & husband, Jeff; Steven Preaus & wife, Casey; David Taunton, Audrey Taunton, Brianna Taunton and Brennen Taunton; 7 great grandchildren; 2 step daughters: Shalane Rogillio & husband, Henry of Farmerville and Patti Peacock & husband, Tim of West Monroe; 6 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild. Pallbearers are Butch Gandy, Stein Baughman, Jr., Don Harrison, Joe Harper, Stan Bacle and Gene Yates. Visitation will be 4:30pm-7:00pm Friday, January 14th at Farrar Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Farmerville United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
