In Loving Memory of Maybelle Catherine Twohie (née Riebling)

December 29, 1930 – July 29, 2025

Maybelle Catherine Twohie, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2025, at the age of 94, after a courageous battle with stage 4 cancer. Born on December 29, 1930, in Queens, New York, Maybelle dedicated her long and impactful life to the service of others-with grace, determination, and an unwavering sense of compassion.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Twohie, and is survived by her four loving children: Jacqueline Twohie; Joan Lazzara and her husband, Anthony; John Twohie and his wife, Brenda; Patricia Twohie and her former husband, Kenny Ladd. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Kimberly Ladd Williams, granddaughter and her husband, Ted Williams, and Dylan Ladd, grandson; as well as her adored great-granddaughter, Alice Williams.

Maybelle graduated from Flushing School of Nursing in 1951 and began a lifelong career in nursing and public service. She served at Bellevue Hospital, worked with the American Red Cross, and provided care and guidance within the East Ramapo School District.

Her passion for service extended far beyond her professional life. Maybelle was a dedicated member of Lions Clubs International for over 35 years and proudly became the first female District Governor representing Rockland, Putnam, and Westchester counties. Through her tireless work with the Lions, she championed causes such as Journey for Sight, raising funds for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, VCB and Operation Overseas, sending care packages to local service members.

A devout member of Saint Boniface Church, Maybelle found strength and community in her faith and her treasured group of prayer ladies. Her generosity, leadership, and warmth touched the lives of many, and she was often described as a modern-day Florence Nightingale.

Despite her lifelong role as a giver, in her final weeks, Maybelle allowed herself to receive the care and compassion of the United Hospice medical staff. The family extends their deepest gratitude to them for their gentle support and comfort.

If you wish to honor Maybelle's memory, the family asks that memorial donations be made to United Hospice, in appreciation of the remarkable care they provided.

The family is incredibly grateful for your love, support, and prayers during this time.
