Maynard Wesley Tipton

Maynard Wesley Tipton, 79, of Erwin passed away at his residence on Wednesday December 17th, 2025. He was born to the late Louis and Marie Tipton. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Christa M. Hicks and four sisters.
Maynard was a member of Mt. O'Dell Free Will Baptist Church. He had been a Sunday School teacher and he enjoyed singing in the choir. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his church family. He had worked in construction most of his life. He was a construction supervisor. Maynard had been employed at Kennametal and Hoover ball and roller division. He had done work in residential construction and worked in retail construction as well. He was hard working and loved what he did. Maynard enjoyed fishing in his free time.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Carolyn J. Tipton; his daughter, Mona Tipton Sills (Gary); son, Maynard Wesley Tipton II; grandsons, Shane Hicks (Joyce) and Daniel Hicks; great grandchildren, Cyrilla Hicks, Rayder HIcks, and Carolyn "Maggie" Hicks as well as several other family members, friends and church friends.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Pulmonologist, April Lambert, Pastor Dwayne Riddle, Charles Miller, and the family and friends that have been so supportive and helpful during his illness.
A service to honor the life of Mr. Maynard Wesley Tipton will be held at Valley Funeral Home on Monday December 22nd, 2025 at 5:30 pm with Pastor David Green and Pastor Dwayne Riddle officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until the hour of the service. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday December 23rd at 11 am in Bumpus Cove Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be John Bryant, Shane Hicks, Daniel Hicks, Gary Sills, Tim Ledford, and Jefferey Green. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Miller, a friend of many years as well as Russell Rogers, friend and brother in law. Those that would like to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Valley Funeral Home at 10:30 to go in procession to the cemetery.
