With heavy hearts, we share that Megan Dorothy (Cummings) Gerfen, 46, of Bend, Oregon, passed away on June 29, 2025. Born and raised in Amity, Oregon, Megan lived a bold, brilliant, and adventurous life that reflected the extraordinary spirit she carried. She was an accomplished artist, athlete, intellectual, mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend.
She graduated from McMinnville High School in 1997, attended Arizona State University on a pole vaulting scholarship, and earned her B.S. in Computer Science from Southern Oregon University. Her career as a software engineer reflected her sharp mind and love of problem-solving. After college, she settled in Bend, Oregon, and married Michael Gerfen in 2010.
Megan never backed down from a challenge-riding horses, skiing, gymnastics, karate, pole vaulting, Ms. Fitness contests, rock climbing, motorcycles, ultralight aircraft, and even learning to leap and perform on ice skates in her 40s. But nothing brought her more joy than being a mom to Maya and Mazerick.
Megan was a devoted wife to Mike and loving mother to Maya and Mazerick. She is also survived by her parents, Christine and Larry Cummings of Amity; her sisters, Shana (Cameron) Coker and Sarah (Brian) Provencio of Bend; her nephews, Boden and Axel; her niece, Lily; and a wide circle of family and friends who will miss her deeply. She was truly one of a kind, and her spark will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to organizations supporting gifted youth or girls in aviation, such as the Northwest Section of The Ninety-Nines, which provides scholarships (899 Goldfinch Lane, Spirit Lake, ID 83869).
We miss you, Megan. You were loved beyond measure.
