The family of Melanie Dorr is deeply grieved to share the news of her death on December 29, 2022, at home surrounded by loved ones.
Melanie Dorr was born on April 9th, 1960 as a set of identical twins to Laura and Charles Warrender. She graduated from Billy Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As a military family they moved around, including to Carmel, California where she met her husband, Peter Dorr. All of these moves instilled a deep enjoyment of travel. Melanie graduated from Oglethorpe University in 1983. She married her husband in 1985. She went on to study Law at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. She passed the bar in Kansas in 1988. She achieved her dream job in 1993 with the birth of her first child. She was the mother to two children Madeleine Hatler and Nathaniel Dorr. Melanie and her husband set out to travel widely with their children. She traveled to all fifty states, Mexico and Canada. Melanie's first promotion was to become a Den Leader in the Boy Scouts, where she and her husband served for several years. Melanie was a person who wanted to be surrounded by beautiful things, a love she was able to share and pass to her children. She enjoyed collecting art from all the places she traveled, and made it a point to support local artisans everywhere she went. She was excitedly waiting for her next promotion to Nana Lynne.
She was preceded in death by her husband. She will be lovingly remembered by her parents, her older sister Robin Hurd, her twin sister Melissa Blake, her children, and her nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Advent Lutheran Church, in Olathe Kansas, on January 7th, at 11 am.
Donations may be made to the American Kidney Fund.
