Melanie Hutchinson Mathies

Melanie, age 49, joined her mother in Heaven on Friday, January 16, 2026. She was a resident of Springfield, LA and a member of Woodland Baptist Church. Melanie was known for her extensive generosity, always looking to help others in any way she could. She had a special place in her heart for animals and never missed a chance to help. Melanie was known for her kind heart and gentle spirit. Even people who never met her knew of the way she lived and cared for others. Melanie impacted so many people in countless ways. She will be forever remembered for her acts of kindness, loving heart, and beautiful soul.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Lionel Mathies Jr.; father, Dilton G. Hutchinson (Patricia); sister, Tammy Davis; step-sister, Bekah McAllister (Hunter); step-brother, David D'Angelo (Brenda); sister-in-law, Deb Spree (Roy); brothers-in-law, Steve Oxner, Bobby Oxner Sr. (Melissa); nieces and nephews, Colin Davis (Devon), Chris Davis (Jessica), Leslie Spree, Ashley Oxner, Rachel Oxner, Bobby Oxner Jr., Madeline McAllister, Erika Harwood; and numerous great nieces and great nephews with one on the way.

Melanie is preceded in death by her mother, Rebecca Lard Hutchinson.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made directly to Lionel in order to help start up "Melanie's Hope", a foundation for animals in need.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home at 12012 Hwy 190 W. Hammond, LA 70401 on Friday, January 23, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Pastor David Whitehead will officiate and interment will follow in Montpelier Community Cemetery.
