Published by Legacy on Sep. 19, 2025.
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Melanie Naylor O'Neal, age 66, of Ocala, Florida, who left this world on Monday, August 18, 2025, after a brave and inspiring battle with cancer that began in 2011.

Born on January 9, 1959, in Boynton Beach, Florida, Melanie was a lifelong resident of the Sunshine State. She dedicated her professional life to the medical field, serving as a compassionate medical assistant and skilled lab technician at Hematology Oncology of the Treasure Coast. Her caring nature and unwavering commitment to her patients were evident in every interaction. Remarkably, Melanie continued to care for others even as she faced her own health challenges, embodying the spirit of resilience and kindness.

Outside of her professional life, Melanie cherished the moments spent with family and friends. A passionate baker, she delighted her loved ones with everything from intricate wedding cakes to specialty cookies, ensuring that every holiday was filled with her delicious creations. Her culinary talents were matched only by her love for reading, whether speed-reading through her extensive collection of books or soaking up the sun at the beach, Melanie had a unique ability to find joy in every moment.

Melanie leaves behind her beloved husband of 45 years, James O'Neal Jr. of ; her loving sisters, Yvonne MacDonald and Terri Naylor; her beloved children, Ryan (Starr) O'Neal, Megan (Joel) Louis-Ferdinand, and Lauren (James) Mattos-O'Neal; and her cherished grandchildren, Olivia, Amelia, Oliver, Jayda, Julie, Alaina, and her newest grandchild, baby Liam, expected in October. She is also remembered fondly by her many nieces and nephews: Wendy, Heather, Kelly, Carrie, Stephen, Katie, Emily, Crystal, Kayla, Justin, and Chessnee, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and great-nephews and nieces who held a special place in her heart.

Melanie was preceded in death by her father, Oliver Edward Naylor; her mother, Ernestine Schultz Naylor; and her brother, David Oliver Naylor. Their loving memories will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who knew her.

A memorial service to celebrate Melanie's remarkable life will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, August 23rd, at First Baptist Church of Chiefland, located at 511 N Young Blvd, Chiefland, FL. All who knew and loved her are warmly invited to attend and share their memories.
