Melanie Plato Obituary
Born on January 28, 1945, in Oisterwijk, The Netherlands, Melanie grew up in post–World War II Europe. In 1961 she met her future husband, Heinz, and soon moved to Germany to be near him. They married in 1966 and immigrated to the United States in 1968, beginning a life together filled with love and devotion.
Multitalented and dedicated, Melanie worked in clinical laboratory science, small business management, newspaper proofreading, and financial bookkeeping. She generously shared her skills by volunteering with numerous church organizations. Beyond her professional and volunteer work, Melanie was a gifted and humble artist, expressing her creativity through paint, pencil, ink, and stitch.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Heinz Plato; her children, Eric Plato (Sara) and Nicole; her cherished grandchildren, Liesel and Lieke Plato, Ro Lee (Nicky Robinson), and Elisabeth Lee; and her sister, Marie Louise Birmingham, along with her family.
Melanie will be remembered for her faith, her talents, and the love she had for her church and family.
The Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM on January 17, 2026, at the Williamsburg Mennonite Church, 100 Maxton Lane, Williamsburg, Virginia 23188.
