Damoth, Melba "Babs" – of Fort Wayne, Indiana, formerly Montrose, age 97, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024. Funeral services will take place at 1PM on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Burial to follow at Montrose Township Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Friday at the Funeral Home from 11AM until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Montrose United Methodist Church or Shriners Children's Hospital.
Melba was born March 22, 1926, in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, to the late John and Leanord (Phillips) Staten. Melba, affectionately known as "Babs," was a woman who embraced life with warmth, kindness, and a compassionate spirit. She married the love of her life, Bill Damoth, on June 11, 1949, in Flint, Michigan. Throughout her life, Babs was an active presence in the Montrose United Methodist Church. She actively participated in various church activities, lending her beautiful voice to the choir, and finding joy in serving her community. Babs's sense of community extended beyond the church. She was an enthusiastic member of the Eastern Star, an organization that fostered a spirit of unity and support among its members. Moreover, Babs lent her time and talents to The Ladies Oriental Shrine, a sisterhood dedicated to philanthropy and fellowship, she was also a member of the Red Hats as well. Babs found joy in her hobbies, she had a green thumb and spent countless hours tending to her garden, she also poured her creativity into the art of quilting and enjoyed the art of canning. She will be greatly missed by many.
Surviving are: Children: Diane Phillipp, Tom Damoth, and John (Kathy) Damoth; She was blessed with 6 Grandchildren, and 10 Great grandchildren; Sister, Mary Koziol; Many nieces and nephews.
