Melba McDanal Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fairmount Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematory on Mar. 17, 2026.
Melba (Micki) Jo McDanal, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 28th, 2026 in Lakewood, CO. She was born on January 28th, 1947 in Denver, CO to the late Kenneth and Betty (Wood) Collins.

Micki grew up and attended schools in southeast Denver. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. After graduation, she worked at Celebrity Sports Center, where she met her future husband, Steve. She attended Western State College before returning to Denver, where she and Steve were married on February 4th, 1967. Micki and Steve left Colorado and lived on various military bases for two years, during which Micki did lifeguarding, taught pre-school, led a Girl Scout troop, and did a lot of spelunking and sightseeing. She and Steve returned to Colorado where she remained while working in recreation, teaching pre-school, pyrotechnics and enjoying many adventures with her family and friends. She was always there to help friends and volunteer where ever she was needed.

Micki's adventurous spirit loved the outdoors, children, and pyrotechnics which quickly became her passion.

Micki is survived by her devoted husband, Steve; loving children Miri and Erik; her most beloved grandson, Colin; brother and sister Jim and Vicki; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her remarkable life will be held in the near future and information will be announced on this website. Donations in her name can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
