Melessa E. "Lesa" Walker

Melessa E. "Lesa" Walker passed from this life at her home in Indianapolis January 14, 2026, at the age of 55. Born on October 14, 1970, in Franklin, Indiana, Lesa was the beloved daughter of Marion and Sherry Greenwood Walker, who instilled in her a love of life and the importance of family.

Lesa grew up in Columbus and graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1988, where she formed lifelong friendships and developed a strong sense of discipline and respect for others.

Throughout her career, Lesa brought joy and comfort to many as a waitress and bartender in various restaurants, including the popular Bootlegger's Saloon in Fort Wayne. Her infectious laugh and genuine interest in her patrons' lives made her a favorite among the regulars and her colleagues alike.

Lesa's passions extended beyond her professional life. She was an exceptional cook, known among her friends and family for her delicious meals and the love she poured into every dish. Her culinary skills were a testament to her creativity and her desire to bring people together around the table.

A true lover of the outdoors, Lesa found solace and joy in going to the beach, with a particular fondness for the West Coast's rugged beauty. Her happiest moments were often spent with her toes in the sand, the ocean breeze in her hair, and the company of her loyal dog, Moose, by her side. Lesa always remembered her other dogs, Wilbur and Freake, who went before her.

Lesa's memory will be forever cherished by her sister, Shelly (Jerry) Cope of Columbus, brother, Mike (Kellie) Bower; nieces and nephews, Justin (Stephanie) Cope, Adam (Felisha) Cope, Hannah (Carlos) Ayala, Jessica (Blair) LeGrand and Lochleigh Marie; great-nieces and nephews, Blaire Cope, Leo Banks, Violet Ayala and Beckette Cope; and many extended family members and great friends.

Lesa was preceded in death by her parents.

In keeping with Lesa's wishes, cremation was chosen. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. In memory of Lesa, memorial contributions may be made to any humane society or animal shelter of the donor's choice.
