Melford J. Miles, known affectionately to many as June, was welcomed into the arms of his Heavenly Father on November 1, 2025. Born on September 30, 1936, in Mebane, North Carolina, Melford J. lived a life characterized by profound faith, boundless generosity, and selfless dedication. His humble spirit and supportive nature left an indelible mark on all who were blessed to know him.
At the early age of 7 years old, Deacon June Miles started singing in the Children's Choir at Miles Chapel Baptist Church in North Carolina. A quartet was formed when Deacon Miles was a teenager and he began singing with his cousins, the Miles Chapel Quartet. June went to Pleasant Grove Unit High School in Burlington, NC and graduated in 1954. He relocated North to Connecticut and joined Union Baptist Church in Stamford, CT.
June worked at Komar Furniture for several years, he then spent much of his life behind the wheel, navigating the roads of life as a driver for Dattco School, Peter Pan, and later FedEx in Stamford, CT, where he later retired. His work was a testament to his steadfast character, his love for his community, his unwavering commitment to service. In the words of St. Augustine, "Find out how much God has given you and from it take what you need; the remainder is needed by others." June lived this truth, generously sharing his time, resources, and love with all those he encountered.
He had a great zeal for the word of God. While a member at Union Baptist, June became Deacon Miles and was a part of a special group that traveled with the Pastor. He was a part of the formation of the Young Adult Choir and the UBC Gospel Choir. Deacon Miles also formed The Spiritualistics of Stamford. God blessed Deacon Miles through the years for which he was so grateful. While singing in the choir, June met Christine Faulk and they married.
Together they left Union Baptist, moved to Norwalk, and bought their home. They were called by God to start a Bible Study in their home which in 1988, flourished into the creation of the Shabach Christian Center that extended to Bouton St. in
Norwalk, CT.
Deacon Miles' Christian journey would lead him to join Calvary Baptist Church. There, he joined the Calvary Baptist Men's Chorus and sang when asked for special programs.
At the heart of June's life were two constants: his unwavering faith in God and his deep love for his family. His dedication to his faith was the foundation from which his generosity and humility flowed.
