Melissa Olmstead Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home - Monticello on Sep. 2, 2025.
Melissa Gregory Olmstead was born October 29, 1971, in Muncie, IN, and departed this life Sunday, August 31, 2025, in Somerset, KY, reaching the age of 53 years. She was the daughter of the late Georgie Slaven and Lindell Gregory.

She is survived by: her husband, Thomas Olmstead; three stepsons, Matt (Guadelupe) Olmstead of Monticello, Caleb (Christie) Olmstead of Monticello, and Jeremiah (Haley) Moore of Lexington; and one grandson, Sam Olmstead. She is also survived by: one sister, Linda (Jose) Garcia of Monticello, KY; two brothers, Billy (April) Miller of Columbia and Mark (Jennifer) Gregory of Pine Knot; and one stepsister, Sherry (Randy) Huck of Byrdstown, TN; several nieces and nephews she loved dearly, who love her dearly, and several fur babies.

In addition to her parents, Georgie Slaven and Lindell Gregory, she was preceded in death by: her stepfather, Bill Miller (who taught her about Christ and took her to church as a young girl); one brother, Randy Gregory; and one stepsister, Terri Spurlock.

Melissa attended Fairview Church of Christ, as she was a member of Christ's church and loved to share the love of Jesus.

What she enjoyed most was spending time with her best friend and husband, Thomas, her grandson, her family, attending church and spending time with her pets. She loved all animals and wanted every dog and cat to have a kind, loving home.

A blessing, joy, beautiful, sweet, rarity, exceptional, charitable, thoughtful and kind Christian woman are only a few words to describe her.

She will be greatly missed and loved always by all who were blessed to know her.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 4, 2025, between 11 am – 1 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
