Melissa Raye Whiting

Melissa (Missy) Raye Whiting, 57, of Bloomington, Minnesota, passed away in her home on December 13, 2025.

Missy was born on February 8, 1968, in Worthington, Minnesota, to Donald and Sharon (Gronewold) Polzine. She graduated from Tracy High School in 1986. Over the years, she worked at Dairy Queen, Schwan's, the Headlight Herald, and ADO before later beginning a new career at BI Worldwide after moving to Bloomington.

Missy shared an inseparable bond with her sister, Madonna. Through that close relationship, she was blessed with two nephews, Casey and Jacob, whom she loved and adored as her own. Upon moving to Bloomington, Missy gained a bonus family-Tom, Gail, Tanya, Tasha, and Bird-before marrying her best friend, Kirk Whiting, on April 14, 2000. Through their marriage, Missy lovingly welcomed four stepchildren into her life, along with grandchildren who brought her joy and laughter and shared many cherished memories with Lyllie.

Missy had a bright smile that lit up every room she entered. She cherished time spent with family-especially sitting around the table, chatting, playing cards, and sharing stories, rosy cheeks and all. She especially cherished traveling to her favorite places with Kirk, creating memories and sharing adventures together. Her warmth and love for others will forever be remembered.

Missy is survived by her loving husband, Kirk Whiting; stepchildren Paula, Heather, Tyler, and Matt, and their children; her sister, Madonna Peterson; her nephew, Casey Polzine, and his family; her parents-in-law, Jerry and Kathy Whiting; along with many extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, and her nephew, Jacob Peterson.

Missy's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A memorial gathering will be held at Washburn-McReavy Dawn Valley Chapel (9940 Bush Lake Rd., Bloomington) on Monday, December 22nd, from 12pm-3pm with a time of sharing beginning at 12:30pm.
