Melodie Conrad Lybbert, age 80, passed away peacefully at her beloved home in Manchester, Washington, on October 10, 2025.
She was born on February 24, 1945, in Spokane, Washington, to Clarence and Bernice Conrad. Melodie grew up in the Spokane Valley area and graduated from Central Valley High School. She later attended Brigham Young University and Eastern Washington University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in education.
Melodie married the love of her life, Clifford Wright Lybbert, on March 22, 1966, and together they had ten children. Family was the heart of her world, and she dedicated her life to creating a loving home filled with warmth, learning, and laughter.
Melodie began her teaching career in Oregon before returning to Washington, where she devoted several years to raising her family as a dedicated homemaker. In 1997, she resumed her passion for education, working as a substitute teacher in the Spokane area until 2001. The following year, she joined Marcus Whitman Middle School in Port Orchard, where she taught until her retirement in 2012. Melodie was deeply respected by both students and colleagues, remembered for her patience, kindness, and the genuine care she showed to everyone who walked into her classroom.
Melodie was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, her sons Michael Aaron Lybbert and Bradley Clifford Lybbert.
She is survived by her eight children: Marci Alderman (Mitch), Tami Dirks (Russell), Kathy Russell (Richard), Barbi Baumann (Duane), Sarah Jones (Chris), Diana Jones (Kris), Eric Lybbert (Nicole), and Randy Lybbert (Casey). She was a proud grandmother of 34 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.
Melodie is also survived by her siblings: Clifton Conrad, Julie Nielsen, Wendy Alverson, Deanna Scanlon, Darwin Conrad, Scott Conrad McCarthy, and Mark Conrad.
Melodie had a gift for creating beauty and connection wherever she went. She loved gardening, music, reading, and family gatherings. Her home was a place of comfort and laughter, and her gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her.
