Melody Amado ObituaryMelody Brook Amado (1955 – 2025)
With deep love and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Melody Brook Amado, a proud Narragansett Tribal citizen, who departed this life on March 20, 2025, at the age of 69. She resided in Charlestown, Rhode Island, where she embraced life with a strong spirit, endless love for family, and a passion for adventure.
Melody was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leo Michael Amado, and her cherished grandson, Brave Spirit-Warrior Amado. She was the devoted daughter of Russell G. Spears and Grace Babcock Brown-Spears. She is survived by her loving children: Stormy L. Hay (Tim Hay), Gary A. Carter Jr. (Nicole Connolly), Talon P. Amado (Alishia Potter-Young), Jeremy Amado (Teresa Amado), Nicole J. Carter, and Allen M. Carter.
She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings: Starr L. Mars, Forrest C. Spears Sr., Lake G. Spears Sr., Autumnleaf Spears, and Sky L. Spears. She was predeceased by her siblings: Diana Mars, Russell (Son) Spears Jr., Holly K. Spears-Harris, Robin S. Spears Sr., Lance P. Spears, and Craig B. Spears Sr. Melody's legacy lives on through her 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored deeply.
A true free spirit, Melody embraced life's journeys with open arms. She loved traveling, whether across the USA or internationally, always ready for a road trip to visit family, attend Jazz festivals, Pow-wows, and Cape Verdean festivals. Her work took her from San Diego to New York, and she dedicated many years to serving the Narragansett Indian Tribe as the Tribal Administrator, as well as working for Lake and Keri Spears Masonry.
Melody's joy for life was infectious-she loved dancing, singing, swimming, reading, and playing cards with family. She found peace and purpose in indigenous lifeways, spending time crabbing, clamming, and fishing, just as she did growing up on the Narragansett Reservation. She also had a deep love for horseback riding and even worked alongside her brothers as a stone mason.
Above all, Melody cherished family. She was known for her strength, honesty, and unwavering love, always telling it like it was. Her laughter filled every room, and her kind, outgoing nature left a lasting impact on everyone she met. She was a guiding light, a fierce protector, and a source of wisdom for all who knew her.
