MELVA BARNEY Obituary

MELVA BARNEY 1931 ~ 2025 Salina, UT Melva Jean Thompson Barney, age 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Salina, surrounded by her loving family on April 29, 2025. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Melva's life was one of quiet strength, unwavering love, and steadfast faith. She was born September 19, 1931, in Salina, Utah, to proud parents George William and Alice Nelba Flanigan Thompson, Melva was raised with strong values and a deep sense of family. She married the love of her life, Glen Moroni Barney, on October 4, 1947, in Richfield. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in commitment, resilience, and nearly 75 years of marriage. Melva supported Glen through his service in World War II, his early years as a truck driver, and the founding of Barney Trucking. Her quiet encouragement and tireless devotion behind the scenes were the steady foundation of their shared legacy. She lived her life with quiet dignity, compassion, and a deep commitment to her family and community. Melva found joy in her home and in the simple moments of life. She had a gentle spirit, a warm heart, and a way of making everyone feel cared for and seen. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, celebrating milestones, sharing meals, and watching generations grow. Melva was the heart of the Barney family, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. She especially cherished time spent at the family cabin, visiting the farm, and enjoying their home in St. George. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Glen; her son, Glen Craig Barney; son-in-law Garry Lund; grandsons Jerod and Jesse Lund; her parents, George and Nelba; and her siblings, Darlene Anderson, Robert, Thomas, Wayne, and John Thompson. Melva is survived by her children: Glenda Lund, Brad and Lisa Barney, Lane and Kimberly Barney, and daughter-in-law Sue Barney, all of Salina; her brother, Clyde Thompson; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. The Barney family extends heartfelt thanks to those who lovingly cared for Melva in her final days.
