Melville "Mel" Finch
September 7, 1953 – November 28, 2025
Melville "Mel" Finch, 72, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025. Born in Brockton, Massachusetts on September 7, 1953, Mel grew up in Rockland, Massachusetts and built a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and a deep devotion to the people he loved. He was a man of simple needs, finding joy in everyday moments and in the company of those closest to him.
Mel worked as a sheet metal engineer for 44 years, known for his reliability and skill. He had a strong sense of right and wrong in life. He was a man who stood on principle-loyal, steady, and unafraid to stand up for what he believed in. In 2022, he and his wife moved to
Pensacola, Florida, where he embraced retirement with gratitude and enthusiasm.
Mel is survived by his loving wife, Erin Finch; his sons Dylan Finch, James Gliniewicz, and Greg Gliniewicz; and his cherished grandchildren Harper Finch, Veronica Gliniewicz, Madison Gliniewicz, Gregory Gliniewicz Jr., Logan Gliniewicz, and Kaylee Gliniewicz. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Coleman, and her husband, Don Coleman, and his brother, Timothy Finch; as well as his nieces and nephews Jennifer, Charles "Chuckie" (his godchild), Timothy, Joseph, Kelly, and Kaylee.
Retirement brought Mel immense joy. He loved walking the beach, watching the Blue Angels, attending hot air balloon festivals, exploring car shows and food festivals, fishing, bike riding, and cooking for his loved ones. He enjoyed thrifting in search of CDs and cookbooks to add to his collections and to discover new recipes. Earlier in life, Mel enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time on the open road. In his younger days, he took great pleasure in playing prank jokes on-and with-his friends and carried a warm, genuine sense of humor throughout his life. He found peace in nature and loved hiking through the woods.
Above all, Mel treasured time with his grandchildren. The activities he enjoyed most with them included hiking, bike riding, walking, cooking, and attending parades, always keeping them engaged and entertained. He also loved watching MMA fights, a special pastime he shared with his son Dylan.
A patriot at heart, Mel loved his country and took deep pride in his children who served in the military. He remained true to his beliefs throughout his life.
Those who knew Mel will remember him for his integrity, loyalty, adventurous spirit, his deep love for his family and friends, his great sense of humor, and his willingness to help those in need. He will be profoundly missed.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
May he rest in peace
